I was talking to a friend recently about bedtime routines. She was really surprised by how quickly we manage to get our two little people into bed and asleep. I decided it might be a worth sharing my top tips and ideas for a getting the kids to bed as quickly and painlessly as possible.
There is no right or wrong way of approaching bedtime. I always say that every child and family is different, the best way is whichever works for your family, but there are little tips and ideas that can help make it just a little easier.
I learnt from my (much younger) siblings that routine is essential, and I whole heartedly believe in it, my two love and really thrive on it. Obviously there are days and times when you think ‘hay one day won’t hurt’ and of course it doesn’t, but the majority of the time we follow our bedtime schedule to the dot, but that’s not to say it goes perfectly everyday, but we do pretty well.
Bath & Bedtime Routine
6:10pm: Get all your essential together; Pyjamas, vests, nappies, teddies, milks etc…
6:15pm Everybody up the stairs, and time to get undressed (or they decided to run around upstairs like crazy people until they’re wrestled out of their clothes)
6:30pm Into the bath they go. It’s nice to let them choose some toys and let them enjoy their time in the bath playing for a bit.
6:45pm Hair/Faces/Body washed, teeth scrubbed (the Oral-B Disney Timer App an amazing tool for making this task just a little bit easier).
6:50pm Everyone out of the bath and into the pyjamas (sometimes there is a bit of wrestling involved in this part too).
7:00pm Time to jump into bed, usually both into one bed for story time.
7:05pm Story and milk time.
7:15pm Kisses and lights out.
7:30pm Everyone is usually asleep by now, so it’s time to relax…or start piecing the house back together.
These are just a few tips and ideas that hopefully can help make your bath time and bedtime routine a little smoother leaving you a little extra time to yourself.
