I love days out, as you can probably tell from some of my posts. But by far my favourite days out are the ones that cost next to nothing or, better yet, free!! You don’t need perfect sunny weather to have a great free day out either, although it does help.
We are always out and about, my two get cabin fever if we spend to much time indoors, so you can usually find us at the park, walking in the wood, puddle splashing, having a picnic and more. Sometimes it can be hard to think of new and interesting things to do so I decided to share some of our best free days out!
Walks & Picnics
We are so lucky to live in the beautiful country side of Oxfordshire and have so many stunning walks right on our door stop, but if you search online I’m sure you could find some amazing walks near you.
On our walks we have also come across great places to pick Blackberries, which the kids demolished straight off the bush…mucky faces all round (be sure you know what your eating, just in case it’s something poisonous).
We also love heading to the local river for a picnic or BBQ. Just grab a group of friends and off you go. You can never go wrong with getting a group of friends together, the mums get to relax a bit and the kids entertain each other.
Try New Things On Holiday
Holidays are a great time to find local free activities, you can try something new and also save money (extra wine money) We tried crabbing in Torquay Harbour, never tried it before, but with a little research it cost £1.50 for the bait, £1 for a net and £1 for the bucket. We honestly didn’t expect to catch anything, but within five minutes we had caught five!!!
My number one free day out has to be the beach! We love going to the beach, all you need is a bucket, a spade, a blanket and a picnic…full day out sorted!!!!!! Its amazing how much fun the kids can have exploring the beach. We visited Tenby in October and we had the greatest time splashing in the sea, fishing in rock pools, climbing on rocks and exploring small hidden caves.
Free Day Trips
Museums are one of my favourite ideas, especially on a rainy day, you can spend hours wondering around these amazing spaces, most have interactive areas for children and usual have a treasure hunt or activity sheet for the kids. We visited the National History Museum in London recently, it was busy as it was the summer holidays but it was still an great free day out, Gethin didn’t stop smiling, the Dinosaurs where a huge hit.
While we were in London we also had a wonder around some of the parks and took some time to play in The Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. It was a beautiful day so everyone was using the fountain as a huge splash park, it was brilliant, although the kids where having so much fun we had trouble convincing them to leave so we could get some dinner.
These are just a few of our fun free days out, they are just some tried and tested winners, but if you have any amazing ideas for free days out let me know…I’m always up for new ideas…SHARE THE FREE FUN!
