The whole idea of Five Minute Mummy is to help Mum’s feel good. It’s about creating a small moment in the day where you have a few minutes for yourself.
I am not an early bird and I will stay in my bed as long as I can. So by the time I drag myself from my cosy bed it usually leaves me with about an hour to get everyone dressed, fed and ready for the day.
So here is my morning routine:
Step 1: Make yourself a coffee, seriously! Priorities people, priorities! I do not function without caffeine and I am not ashamed to admit it.
Step 2: Feed the gannets. The hope is if they’re fed they will be a bit more likely to cooperate. While you’re there make sure you eat too.
Step 3: Bags Packed. While they eat their breakfast you can make a start on making sure you have all their lunches made and bags ready to go at the door.
Step 4: Get the kids dressed. If they’re ready first you know much time you have to play with. Little tip, doing your ironing (as much as I hate it) saves so much time when getting everyone ready.
Step 5: Keeping them entertained. You’re not going to be long, around ten to fifteen minutes, so if Peppa Pig keeps them out of trouble, stick Nick Jr. on and stop feeling guilty about it.
Step 6: Have a mouth full of your now tepid coffee and get your butt in the shower.
Step 7: Getting yourself dressed. PJ’s are not an option and we can’t do the school run naked can we? I recommend organising your wardrobe (tutorial to come), I know it seems like a lot of effort, but trust me it’s a god send. Pick something you actually want to wear, that makes you feel good about yourself and don’t even think about digging anything out of the laundry bin.
Step 8: Makeup. By now you have hopefully mastered your five minute makeup routine. No? Check out my tutorial.
Step 9: Hair. Do something with it, honestly it will make you feel better. It doesn’t need to take for ever, check out some of my tutorials for some seriously easy and quick ideas, you’ll be surprised what you can achieve.
Step 10: Shoes…shoes…where are everybody’s bloody shoes????? I swear there is a naughty shoe elf who hides them in the night.
Step 11: Last mouth full of your now cold coffee and out the door we go…ta da.
It’s not perfect, and it doesn’t always go to plan, but that’s life. The idea is to help you feel good, and if you’re feeling good hopefully your day will seem that little easier.
